Most people can leave this blank. A destination tag (also shown as a memo, memo ID, or payment ID on some exchanges) is a short code that identifies your account behind a shared XRP deposit address. GIFQ shows the field only when you redeem your payout in XRP, and filling it in is optional — only exchange and custodial accounts use one.
Do I need one?
A personal wallet — leave the field blank. Wallets like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Ledger, and Xaman/Xumm don't use destination tags at all, so there is nothing to look up. Your address already belongs to you alone.
An exchange account (Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit and similar) — open the XRP deposit page. If it shows a destination tag, memo, memo ID, or payment ID, copy that value into the field.
Not sure — check the deposit page anyway. If no tag is shown there, you don't need one.
Note: leaving the field blank never blocks your payout. XRP is the only cryptocurrency where the field appears at all — every other one needs just a wallet address.
What it does
Exchanges and custodial services often hold many customers' XRP under one shared deposit address. The destination tag tells them which account to credit — the address alone isn't enough. A personal wallet has an address of its own, so there is nothing to disambiguate, which is why those wallets never show you a tag.
Where to find your destination tag
Open the exchange or wallet where you want to receive your XRP payout.
Go to Deposit (or Receive) for XRP.
Copy the deposit address.
If a destination tag, memo, memo ID, or payment ID is shown next to it, copy that too. If nothing is shown, there is nothing to copy — skip the field.
Paste both values into the matching fields on the redeem page.
💡 Tip: the field accepts numbers only, up to 10 digits — an XRP destination tag is always a number. If you paste something like Tag: 12345, GIFQ keeps the digits and drops the rest, so the value changing as you paste is expected. Don't retype the number by hand, and don't reuse a tag from a different account.
If you leave it blank
That's the correct choice for a personal wallet, and your payout goes through normally. If your exchange did show you a tag and you leave it out, the deposit reaches the exchange but can't be matched to your account, so it won't appear in your balance. Check the deposit page before you confirm.
If the tag is wrong
⚠️ Warning: an incorrect tag can permanently lose your funds. The payment reaches the shared address under someone else's identifier, and blockchain transactions can't be reversed.
Recovery, if possible at all, depends entirely on the receiving exchange's support team and is never guaranteed. Compare the tag against your exchange's deposit page before confirming the transfer.
